The Pinehurst Club Breakfast — Keeping the Dream Alive!
SCAW has three funds: the Bedkit Fund where every cent goes to the
children; the Operating Fund which pays the ongoing SCAW expenses; and
the Legacy Fund which supplies most of the funds that are needed for
the Operating Fund.
The Legacy Fund was initially funded through the sale of
the three Tree Farms donated by Murray and Margaret Dryden (about $2,500,000
was raised). In the last few years, a study has been completed by some Financial
Experts, and their study indicated that the Legacy Fund will need to be strengthened
in the future if we expect to keep increasing the number of SCAW bedkits given
to children.
We all know that the interest earned on investments has been decreasing
and this has added to SCAW's need to find additional funding for the Legacy
Fund. "Murray's
Dream Team" has initiated "The Pinehurst Club" to
help grow the Legacy Fund and to keep the dream alive!
The
first meeting of The Pinehurst Club was on Wednesday,
April 29, 2009, at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel — a breakfast meeting
from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. The event was held
in the Canadian Room and TD Commercial Banking acted as our Event Sponsor. Michael "Pinball" Clemons was
our keynote speaker along with our own Dave
and Theo Dryden.

Tables of ten were sold for $1,500 and individual seats for $150.
A draw for some selected items was also a part of this breakfast event. This
is a part of "2009
– the year of the 1,000,000th bedkit" celebrations.
"Ambassadors" (a
group of 12 Business Executives) spear-headed the sale of
tables and almost 600 people attended this exciting
SCAW event — our inaugural breakfast.
The Pinehurst Club is an initiative designed to bring the business community
closer to SCAW. Business people know that an organization needs to have a good
financial foundation for continued success. We are reaching out to the business
community through The Pinehurst Club breakfast.
And it will happen again on May 5, 2010, when we will have the second
annual Pinehurst Club breakfast.
