At some point we hope to, but not at this time. Sleeping Children is not an emergency response organization but an organization that sends our volunteer travellers to environments where it is safe to work, where there are suppliers to supply the items we need for the bedkits, where we can securely transport and store bedkits, where we can find a compatible partner to work with, and where we can bring hope to children, not just for today, but for the future. We will continue to monitor the situation in Haiti and it is our hope that things will progress to the point where we can do a bedkit distribution in Haiti sooner rather then later. Thank you for your continued support. For the children, Sleeping Children Around The World Board of Directors -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Our committee monitors and adjusts as necessary anything that has to do with the process of bedkit distribution. While doing presentations, I am asked many times about one of the policies that we monitor:?How do we select the countries where we distribute bedkits. Since SCAW does not have the resources to distribute bedkits in every country in the world, we have criteria to define the countries in which we will distribute bedkits. Statement of Policy: ================ In order for SCAW to go to a country to distribute bedkits, all of the following conditions must be met. In addition, when SCAW receives a request for more bedkits from a country where we currently distribute bedkits, a request to go to a new country or doing an emergency distribution after a disaster, the SCAW Board of Directors will make a decision based on these factors. */ Whenever possible, consideration will be given, to try and achieve some balance between continents. */ SCAW must be able to find a trustworthy Overseas Volunteer Organization that is willing to follow and work within SCAW Guidelines. */ The Country must be safe for SCAW travelling volunteers to travel and get the job done. */ The Per Capita Income in the country must be less than $2,000 US per year, as per the World Bank, world development indicators report (Section 1.1, size of the economy). */ The percentage of the population earning less than $2.00 US per day must be more than 40%, as per the World Bank, world development indicators report (Section 2.5 poverty) As soon as any country does not meet any of the above criteria, the Board will make a decision on any future distribution. This is reviewed annually.
